TITLE: Psychologist
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
REPORTS TO: Director for Exceptional Student Services
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director for Exceptional Student Services, the School
Psychologist's primary duty is that of psychological service to children
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Completes psycho-educational evaluations and re-evaluations as part of a
multidisciplinary team evaluation
a. Completes evaluations within the appropriate timelines
b. Uses a variety of appropriate instruments/strategies to assess student
abilities
c. Utilizes professional and adopted standards for report preparation
d. Submits evaluations for transcription, editing and review within District
timelines
2. Participates in multidisciplinary conferences
a. Attends all scheduled student conferences
b. Serves as team leader, as requested, for student conferences
c. Conducts conferences in a professional manner
3. Provides short term counseling to students
a. Maintains professional documents
b. Facilitates referrals to appropriate agencies
c. Responds to request for counseling in a timely manner
4. Participates in crisis intervention services as requested by site administrators
a. Responds in a timely manner to crisis situations
b. Upon request, assumes leadership/guidance role within crisis situations
c. Facilitates referrals to appropriate agencies for needed follow-up
5. Interprets assessment data as needed to parents and district staff
a. Gives accurate and complete data in a format understood by educators and
parents
b. Generates and supports recommendations based on the available data
c. Ensures that recommendations and instructional strategies are consistent
with available data
6. Provides technical assistance to school staff in areas such as classroom modifications
for learning and/or social/behavior management
a. Demonstrates an understanding of classroom formats conducive to specific
learning needs and styles
b. Provides in-service training at the request of the site administrator and/or
Director of Special Needs
7. Serves as consultant for parents for areas such as child development, behavioral
management, cognitive development, family dynamics, interpersonal
communications
a. Meets with parents to discuss their concerns regarding student cognitive
and/or emotional development
b. At parent request, consults with community agencies providing services to
the child
c. Makes self available to meet with parent as needed
8. Develops and submits monthly and annual reports as requested by Director of
Exceptional Student Services
a. Submits documentation in a timely matter
b. Follows adopted procedures and standards
9. Performance of other job related duties as assigned by Director of Exceptional Services
a. Follows adopted procedures and standards
10. Complies with State statutes, Board policies, administrative procedures, school rules
and regulations
a. Carries out the school and District policies and designated regulations
b. Follows adopted procedures when trying to make changes
11. Conducts himself/herself appropriately towards staff and parents
a. Exhibits self-control and good judgment
b. Responds to problems in a constructive manner
c. Demonstrates respect for the ideas and feelings of others
12. Maintains a professional demeanor
a. Dress in an appropriate manner
b. Exhibits pride in personal appearance
c. Uses correct oral and written communication skills
13. Adheres to school day according to current Board policy and procedures
a. Arrives at assigned school/worksite at the designated time
b. Departs from school/worksite at the designated time
c. Adheres to approved daily schedule
14. Pursues professional growth opportunities
a. Participates in coursework
b. Participates in staff development opportunities
c. Attends conferences, meetings, seminars
d. Attends workshops
e. Reads professional literature
15. Maintains responsible attendance patterns
a. Adheres to absence reporting procedures
b. Absence pattern is not disruptive to serves for children
EDUCATION:
Graduate degree in Psychology or in a related field
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Arizona School Psychologists Certificate
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Ability to work effectively w/district and school site administrators, teachers, support
staff, parents and community agencies
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The working environment is a classroom setting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month, Psychologist Salary Schedule, employee benefits in
accordance with Board policies.
EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation
of certified staff.
