    CLASSIFICATION: Classified Technical Professional Exempt

    REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

    The Payroll Supervisor will provide efficient, effective payroll services.

    1. Supervise and provide guidance to Payroll staff.
    2. Provide employee training on policy, procedures, and functions within the department.
    3. Guide payroll staff to respond to employees with information regarding paychecks and assist in resolving discrepancies in employees’ paychecks.
    4. Oversee the preparation of biweekly payroll documents for all District Employees.
    5. Respond to technical questions related to policy, practices, and procedures related to the Payroll Department,
    6. Directly oversees Benefits Specialist in support of management of employee benefits programs, including contract analysis, new employee orientations, counseling, coordination with insurance companies, open enrollment, record maintenance, payroll deductions, compliance with regulations, retirement benefits, and professional development.
    7. Approve the sharing of data and reports outside the department or District.
    8. Oversee audit processes and check the work of payroll staff for accuracy and compliance with policy, procedures, and functions.
    9. Oversee and support periodic and other reports for governmental agencies and other uses as required.
    10. Prepare payroll reports as requested by Superintendent, Deputy, and/or Direct Supervisor.
    11. Establish a plan for maintaining payroll records, processing time sheets, and reconciling data.
    12. Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll adjustments, including retroactive pay increases, overtime, and deductions.
    13. Forward payroll deduction payments to insurance companies, credit unions, and other employee deduction recipients.
    14. Supervise the sorting, reconciling, and distribution of employee paychecks.
    15. Identify and recommend improvements in procedures and efficiencies in how data and information is gathered, assembled, filed, and distributed.
    16. Prepare quarterly and other special payroll project reports.
    17. Maintain payroll records according to the General Records Retention Schedule.
    18. Oversee the preparation and submission of all payroll-related tax reports and filings to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
    19. Attend inservice training for continued professional development.
    20. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
    Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting or related field and/or a combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.


    A minimum of three-years supervisory experience in business, accounting, or payroll.

    • Demonstrated specialized knowledge and ability to work with highly complex situations and procedures.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
    • A high level of English proficiency is required.
    • Ability to communicate the department practices orally and in writing.
    • Ability to use 10-key calculator with a high degree of accuracy and to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and database systems.
    • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to use independent judgment in setting priorities and making decisions.
    • Able to use discretion in handling confidential information.
    The working environment is the normal office setting.

    Twelve-month year, District Office Admininstrator salary schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
