    TITLE: ELL Instructional Specialist

    CLASSIFICATION: Certified

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

    SUMMARY:
    The purpose of the ELL Instructional Coach is to provide guidance and feedback to teachers in a context of sharing and mutual support as they effectively implement the district English Language Learner Program. This person facilitates efforts to ensure that state regulations and recommendations are followed to ensure that students are successful in attaining academic and English language skills.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of English Language Acquisition Programs, i.e. Bilingual Maintenance Education, Structured English Instruction, English-Only Instruction and professional development, i.e., SEI, SIOP, etc.
    2. Comprehensive knowledge of English Learner Program regulations and procedures for district and state functions for English Learners, i.e., assessment, reporting, and analysis of data.
    3. Understands assessment data to support program with fiscal and other resources
    4. Knowledge of instructional leadership and good teaching practice
    5. Attends appropriate trainings as assigned, i.e., assessment, program, etc.
    6. Demonstrates experience in cognitive coaching and peer coaching.
    7. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
    8. Knowledge of instructional leadership and good teaching practice
    9. Supports the professional development program by facilitating and/or participating in institute, grade level meetings, on-line and traditional course, whole or half-day in-services, in class coaching, team teaching and mentoring.
    10. Observes and monitor teaches providing feedback
    11. Models explicit instructional strategies which are scientifically based for English Learners
    12. Accesses technical assistance when necessary
    13. Collaborates with Director of Federal Programs on Title III decisions.
    14. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
    15. Understand and applies knowledge of adult learning theory
    16. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally to teachers, principals and parents
    17. Facilitate ongoing Professional development sessions for teachers
    18. Coach and support teachers in effect classroom instruction for English Learners
    19. Knowledge of Title III English Learner Grant.
    EDUCATION:
    BA+45 or Master’s Degree preferred

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Must have a valid K-8 Arizona teaching certificate

    EXPERIENCE:
    Four years teaching experience required in teaching K-3 English Language Learners

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
    Must hold a Bilingual, ESL or SEI endorsement
    Must be able to train parents and teachers

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The working environment is a classroom setting.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month, Certified Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
