    TITLE: ESS Preschool Teacher

    CLASSIFICATION: Preschool Teacher

    REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Director and Principal

    SUMMARY: The preschool teacher will work closely with teachers, parents, and agencies with support and training to enhance the preschool program and student achievement.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children 4 and 5 years old.
    2. Participate daily in team-planning of curriculum with the teaching assistant and other staff, encouraging and using appropriate input from parents.
    3. Complete and maintain all necessary documentation as required by the preschool program.
    4. Implement and monitor state and local health and safety policies and procedures.
    5. Conduct home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
    6. Train and supervise staff, volunteers, and parents.
    7. Coordinate the activities of support staff and service providers.
    8. Oversee the team, developmental assessment of each child and develop appropriate lesson plans that reflect the needs in the assessments.
    9. Work cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children with disabilities.
    10. Oversee maintenance and inventory of classroom supplies, materials, and equipment.
    11. Maintain appropriate education certification or credentials as required.
    12. Plan, organize, and attend parent meetings, and training as needed or required.
    13. Develop and maintain a relationship with each family to encourage meaningful participation in the preschool program.
    14. Review monthly the needs and progress of each family.
    15. Interact comfortably and empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds.
    16. Provide incidental first aide as needed and report incident to the parent and preschool office.
    17. Arrange the physical environment and daily curriculum to reflect a developmentally appropriate, anti-bias, multicultural approach.
    18. Participate in annual program assessments.
    19. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:
    Bachelors degree and a minimum of one-year experience working with preschoolers as well as a Teaching Certificate with an Early Childhood Endorsement and ESS Endorsement

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Provide evidence of fingerprint clearance, negative TB clearance within last 12 months, current immunizations, CPR, and First Aide certificates. Special Education teaching certificate with an Early Childhood Endorsement.

    EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum of one-year experience working with preschoolers.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
    • Ability to relate to needs of low-income families.
    • Ability to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children 4 and 5 years old.
    • Ability to maintain documentation required by the preschool program.
    • Ability to train and supervise staff, volunteers, and parents.
    • Willingness to pursue additional training in job-related areas.
    • Must have a reliable, insured vehicle for use on the job and a good driving record.
    • Ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to the job.
    • Ability to interact comfortably and empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to bend, carry and lift 50 pounds, kneel, push and pull 25 pounds.
    • Ability to move throughout the classroom.
    • Ability to maintain a safe learning environment.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The work environment is a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate. The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month year, Certified Salary Formula employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
