UNTIL FILLED   Additional Information: - Supervises all bus drivers to ensure they meet district safety and performance standards.
- Reviews driver clock-in/out times, mileage tracking, and daily vehicle inspections to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Evaluates bus drivers for performance, providing feedback and recommending training when necessary.
- Conducts monthly check rides and inspections with bus drivers, in coordination with the Lead Driver Trainer, to assess safety compliance.
- Ensures all transportation bus drivers adhere to policies that align with federal, state, and district regulations.
- Investigates accidents, incidents, and complaints related to student transportation and prepares detailed reports.
- Advises the Director of Transportation on any department concerns, including driver performance, route efficiency, and operational issues.
- Analyzes bus routes and ridership patterns, making recommendations for modifications to improve service.
- Visit school loading zones to observe, assist, and provide guidance on student loading and unloading procedures.
- Assists with ensuring students with special transportation needs receive proper accommodations.
- Works closely with the Lead Mechanic and garage staff to ensure all district vehicles receive proper maintenance and repairs.
- Reviews and processes work orders for vehicle repairs submitted by bus drivers and district vehicle users.
- Verifies that preventative maintenance schedules are being followed for all school buses and district vehicles.
- Tracks fleet utilization, repair history, and service records to maintain an efficient vehicle operation system.
- Acts as a liaison between transportation, school administrators, and parents, addressing concerns related to student transportation.
- Works with community partners and contracted vendors to ensure proper coordination of student transportation services.
- Assists school principals and staff in enforcing student bus behavior policies and addressing discipline issues.
- Collaborates with the Director of Transportation and Lead Mechanic on billing and purchase orders related to GPS systems, routing software, and vehicle maintenance.
- Drives a school bus when necessary to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Assists in emergency transportation situations, such as route disruptions, accidents, or unexpected service gaps.
- Oversees accident response procedures, ensuring proper documentation, investigations, and follow-ups are completed.
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Public Administration, or a related field experience can be substituted year-for-year for a degree.
- Specialized training in student transportation, fleet management, or logistics (preferred)
- Valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Arizona School Bus Driver Certification (required or ability to obtain)
- Current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- Certification in First Aid and CPR
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in student transportation, logistics, fleet management, or a related field (required)
- Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience in transportation operations (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of student transportation operations, routing systems, and fleet management.
- Experience supervising, evaluating, and training bus drivers.
- Ability to analyze, develop, and optimize bus routes for efficiency and equity.
- Proficiency in transportation software, GPS tracking systems, and fleet management tools.
- Strong communication skills for working with drivers, school administrators, parents, and district personnel.
- Understanding of garage operations, preventative maintenance schedules, and vehicle service procedures.
- Ability to drive a school bus and hold required certifications/licenses for student transportation operations.

TITLE: Transportation Support Specialist
CLASSIFICATION: Classified Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUMMARY: The Transportation Support Specialist plays a critical role in the Roosevelt School District’s Transportation Department by overseeing bus drivers, transportation operations, and fleet maintenance activities. This position combines elements of supervision, route planning, and garage operations, ensuring that student transportation is safe, efficient, and compliant with all district and state regulations. The Transportation Support Specialist reports directly to the Transportation Director and collaborates closely with dispatchers, mechanics, driver trainers, and administrative staff to optimize daily transportation operations.
